Living with your cat in today’s world
Cats are territorial animals who are at their happiest when they feel in control of their environment. Anything that interrupts this such as moving, redecorating or bringing home a new pet or baby can unsettle them. Over time this can increase your cat’s anxiety which can be expressed in various ways:
- Scratch marking or urine spraying in the home
- Less interaction with you
- Hiding away
- Overgrooming
- Under or over eating
Sometimes for cats sharing isn’t an option
Cats have evolved as solitary hunters meaning they may perceive the presence of other cats as a potential threat to their resources. Aggression between cats at home is a common problem for cat owners and the signs can be obvious:
- Fighting
- Chasing each other
- Staring at each other
